(first off please forgive me for any misspellings or bad grammer as I will b crying as I type this)

I have been a Red Sox fan since birth, there was never any other way in my family.  I remember my first favorite player being Mike Greenwell, not sure why I loved him (I was 6 when he started) but I did.  So in 1995 when my parents told my brother and I we were going to our first game at Fenway I was super pumped to see Mr Greenwell in person.  Little did I know I would get to see the player who would take his place in my heart and never ever leave.  The day was June 29, 1995, Red Sox were playing the Detroit Tigers and a one Mr Tim Wakefield was pitching.  He pitched a great game only give up one run, a homer, and the Red Sox won 7 - 1.  I remember thinking, wow what a cool pitch and he made guys (major leaguers) look stupid how cool.  I was hooked, Tim had just replaced Mike as my favorite player and every single year after he just cememted his place there.  Weather it was dealing with some not so great managers or not caring (or bitching) that he was being moved from starter, to closer, to BP to whevere they damn well needed him.  Tim showed was a true team player was, he wanted nothing more than to win a WS for the city of Boston, so when the homer was hit off him in 03, after all the good he had done, I was crushed and super pissed at Little.  So when 04 happened and once again he had no issue taking one for the team (game 3 of the ALCS) I was happiest for Tim, he so earned it and deserved every nice thing said about it.  When he gave up his spot for Lester in 07 I knew then, that I would never ever like a player has much as I would like him.  So today, Tim retired, and even though I knew it was coming, my heart was still crushed.  I cried most of the day and bawled watching the presser.  I don’t think MLB or the Red Sox will ever see another player like him and MLB has lost a great man never mind a great player.  I have always said if MLB had more Tim Wakefields MLB would be an even better sport to watch.  But so all good things must come to and end, so I say good bye Tim Wakefield, you will always and forever be my favorite Red Sox player I will miss you greatly but I hope you have a great retirement and have a blast with your adorable kids they have an awesome Dad.  I hope you visit Fenway alot, I hope I am there to seeyou when you do.

Goodbye and God Bless Timmy, I will always be your #1 fan
